In the late 1950's Hubert de Givenchy launched the fashion house's first fragrance, L'Interdit. Created  for and inspired by his good friend and muse Audrey Hepburn, the fragrance was worn by the silver screen star for a year before it's launch to the public.
 Interdit: Forbidden, Prohibited
There's a story that says Hubert created the fragrance for Hepburn exclusively, and when he suggested launching it to the public she replied  'But I forbid you!'. And so the perfume gained it's name. Whether this is true or not, I don't know, but I like the idea of it.

Hepburn became the face of the fragrance. In fact, she became the first ever face of any fragrance, and so the idea of a celebrity campaign was born.

The parfumeur behind the scent was the influential Francis Fabron who created the aldehydic floral fragrance with notes of rose, jasmine and violet with tonka bean. The fragrance has undergone a few reworks in it's time and now Givenchy have just launched, more contemporary, L'Interdit with Rooney Mara as the face of the campaign.

The thrill of the forbidden.

Notes
Orange blossom, jasmine & tuberose
Vetiver & patchouli

I've had the pleasure of owning this scent a few weeks before it launched and I was beyond thrilled to get my hands on it. It's a deliciously rich fragrance and much darker than anything in my collection. It feels sophisticated and elegant and when wearing it, I feel like a grown woman with my shit together. It's feminine without being too sweet. I wore it out on a recent date night and it felt beautifully romantic. The scent is long lasting and unwavering. It's still lingering on the dress I wore that night and every time I open my wardrobe doors I get a hint of it, casting my mind bag to that evening of red wine and dancing.

As you may have read in my post on the DKNY Stories fragrance, I usually prefer a sweet and light scent. L'interdit is a complete contrast to anything I have or would usually go for but I've truly fallen in love with it. It's the perfect accompaniment to a little black dress, heels and a killer red lip.
