The Friday Five | TV Shows I'm Currently In To

A few weeks ago I realised it's been a little while since the boyfriend and I sat down for hours on end with a new TV show that we're totally obsessed with, and I decided that needed to change. We made conscious effort to be more coach potato and try and get in to some new shows. The whole thing made me realise how much I enjoy a good telly show. So I thought I'd share the stuff I'm currently vegging out to on an evening, massive bag of Kettle Chips in hand.

1. Game Of Thrones
Obviously, the new season and all that. I won't bang on about it, you can thank me later.

2. Love
A Netflix original with creator Judd Apatow on board (Pineapple Express, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Knocked Up... I could go on... Basically all the good shit). My brief take on the show would be thus; it's about a couple of flawed but good-at-heart individuals trying to figure out love, commitment and where or if it fits in to their lives. The writing is brilliant and the humour is right up my street, subtle and real and out loud chuckle worthy. For me it's very Master Of None meets Flaked, so if you enjoyed those you'll probably like this too. So far I'm absolutely hooked.

3. Jane The Virgin
I'm only half way through the latest season and oh my goodness I just love it.  To cut a long story short, a virgin woman gets accidentally artificially inseminated and total chaos ensues. I know some people don't get the comedy in this and think it's all a bit over the top but that's pretty much the point. In true telenovela style the plot is completely outrageous yet gripping. But the characters make this show for me, I'm just so invested in each and everyone of them. Not to mention Gina Rodriguez who plays Jane is my woman crush each and every damn Wednesday of the year.

4. Preacher
My boyfriend put this on out of the blue one evening when we were looking for a new show to get in to and I'd said 'Anything. Don't even tell me, just pick', I don't know where he found it but I'm glad he did. We're only two episodes in and the third isn't out yet, but I want more! I want to tell you what it's about, but I actually have no idea so far. All I know is it's set in a small Southern American town, features a Preacher and vampires are involved. It also doesn't shy away from a bit of gore. Two of it's creators are Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogan (Both having being involved in Pineapple Express, Superbad, This Is The End etc etc. Much like aforementioned Apatow) which is actually surprising because while it definitely has the odd chuckle inducing moment, I definitely wouldn't pin this as a comedy. So far it's kind of reminding me of The Walking Dead and True Blood, but we're only two episodes in and I still have no idea where the hell this is heading. But wherever it is, I want to go there.

5. Gavin And Stacey
Ahh, my old faithful. I'm re-watching this for the hundredth time at the minute. I've recently had a couple of days where I've felt a bit down and out of sorts and I've been popping the kettle on and spending an hour or two in the world of this crazy bunch. It's an old favourite and there's just something about it that's so comforting to me. I have the same kind of relationship with the Miranda series but I reckon I've exhausted that for a little while. If you haven't seen Gavin and Stacey, I'm not going to explain it, I'm just going to say watch it. And 'Oh My Christ' I bloody love Pam.

I'd love to know any telly shows you're currently in to. My ears are always open to new things to binge on and pretty much procrastinate to.

  1. I love your choices of Programmes to watch! I am hooked on 'Jane the Virgin' at the moment, even though most of my friends hate it! I have been interested in watching 'Love' but wasn't sure whether it would be my thing, but reading your review has made me think twice and I'm going to give it a go! Got to love being a Couch Potato sometimes!

    1. Haha, yep, sometimes you've got to embrace your inner couch potato :). I think people just don't get Jane the Virgin, I'm almost at the end of the latest season now and it's all so intense I'm loving it! Definitely give Love a go, it's probably not everyone's cup of tea but I think it's great.xx

    1. Wow you trooper! Haha. I've done that with Ex On The Beach, I'd never seen it before and I got weirdly hooked and couldn't turn it off. I've not seen True Detective but I have heard about it, I think it'll have to be next on my hit list! x

  5. I love Gavin and Stacey- especially for the reason you stated, it picks you up when you're down! I'm a lover of Gogglebox, however, I feel like it's a bit like marmite- you either love it or hate it.
